Not stitched by a machine.

Every thread in this collar was woven by hand — by an indigenous artisan in southern Mexico, using embroidery techniques passed down through generations of Aztec and Mayan craft. That's not a marketing line. It's the reason no two collars come out exactly the same.

The leather is cut from full hides, not scraps. The embroidered band wraps the full circumference of the collar, stitched directly onto the leather and secured at both ends by the hardware assembly so it doesn't peel or shift over time. Stainless steel buckle and double D-ring keep everything secure without the bulk of oversized hardware.

You'll notice the weight the first time you hold it — solid but not stiff. The leather breaks in within a few days of wear, softening around your dog's neck while the embroidery holds its shape and color.

THE CRAFT

Each collar is made by indigenous craftswomen in small workshops across southern Mexico. The embroidered bands use techniques rooted in Aztec and Mayan textile traditions — geometric patterns woven one thread at a time on backstrap looms before being hand-mounted onto the leather.

There's no assembly line. One artisan cuts and prepares the leather. Another weaves the embroidered band. A third assembles the hardware and finishes the piece. The process takes days, not minutes — which is why every collar carries slight variations in pattern density and thread tension that you'll never find on a factory collar.

A portion of every sale goes directly to the artisan communities producing the collars, supporting fair wages and the preservation of a craft tradition that's been practiced for centuries.

SIZE & FIT

Measure your dog's neck where the collar sits. Add two fingers of space between the tape and your dog's neck. That's your target measurement.

Small — fits 8.6" to 13.4" neck, 0.8" wide
Best for: Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, French Bulldogs, Pugs, small Beagles

Medium — fits 13.7" to 19.2" neck, 1" wide
Best for: Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Bulldogs, Cocker Spaniels, Pit Bulls

Large — fits 18.5" to 22.8" neck, 1" wide
Best for: Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Boxers, Rottweilers

If your dog's measurement falls at the top end of one size, go up. The leather has very little stretch, so a collar that's tight on the last hole won't loosen over time.

Between two sizes? Go with the larger one.

MATERIALS & HARDWARE

Leather: Full-grain genuine leather, vegetable-tanned, natural brown finish

Embroidery: Hand-woven cotton thread using traditional Aztec-Mayan backstrap loom techniques.

Buckle: Stainless steel single-prong buckle

D-rings: Double D-ring configuration with protective inner leather lining to prevent metal-on-skin contact

Keepers: Two leather fixing loops to hold excess strap flat after buckling

Rivets: Capped steel rivets securing all hardware attachment points

Adjustment: Multiple hole positions for fine-tuned fit within each size range

CARE

Wipe down with a damp cloth after muddy walks. For deeper cleaning, use a small amount of saddle soap or leather cleaner — work it in with your fingers, then wipe dry.

Condition the leather every 4–6 weeks with a leather conditioner or natural oil (coconut oil works). This keeps it supple and prevents cracking, especially in dry climates.

Occasional loose threads may appear over time, especially if your dog scratches at the collar. This is normal with handwoven textiles — it's surface fraying, not structural unraveling. Trim the loose thread flush with small scissors. Don't pull it. A small drop of fabric glue on the trimmed end keeps it from working loose again.

Avoid soaking the collar. If it gets fully wet, let it air dry at room temperature — never use a hair dryer or leave it on a radiator. Heat dries out the leather and can warp the shape.

The leather will develop a patina over time. This is normal and intentional — the collar gets richer and more distinctive with wear. The embroidery is colorfast and holds up through regular use.

FAQ

Will the embroidery hold up with everyday wear?
Yes. The embroidered band is stitched directly onto the leather and secured at both ends by the hardware assembly, so it stays locked in place under daily use. You may see an occasional loose thread over time — that's normal for handwoven textiles. A quick trim with scissors is all it needs.

Can my dog swim or get wet in this collar?
Occasional rain or splashing is fine — just let it air dry afterward. We don't recommend leaving it on for extended swimming sessions. Prolonged soaking can stiffen the leather and shorten the collar's life. If your dog swims regularly, swap to a synthetic collar for water days and save this one for everything else.

Is this collar strong enough for dogs that pull?
The leather and hardware can handle pulling — the stainless steel buckle and riveted D-rings aren't going anywhere. But this is a standard buckle collar, not a no-pull training device. If your dog pulls hard on walks, pair it with a front-clip harness for leash control and use the collar for ID tags, everyday wear, and lighter outings.

How do I know which size to pick if my dog is between sizes?
Go up. The leather doesn't stretch much, so a tight fit on day one won't improve. With the larger size, you get room to adjust.

Are the patterns exactly the same on every collar?
Each band is hand-woven by a different artisan so there can be slight changes. The overall design and color is consistent, but yours will be one of a kind.

I ordered the wrong size. Can I exchange it?
Absolutely. Send it back in the same condition within 30 days and we'll ship the correct size right away.

THE ARTISAN

Made by People, Not by Machines

Every collar in this collection was made by hand in a small workshop in southern Mexico — by a craftswoman who learned these techniques from her mother, who learned them from hers.

The geometric patterns aren't decorative choices pulled from a design catalog. They're part of a living textile tradition rooted in Aztec and Mayan culture, woven on backstrap looms the same way they've been woven for centuries. Each artisan works at her own pace, choosing thread tension by feel.

When you buy this collar, a portion of the sale goes directly to her community — supporting fair wages and keeping a craft alive that industrial manufacturing nearly erased.

THE LOOK

The Collar People Ask About

You'll notice it the first time you take your dog out wearing it. Someone at the park glances over, does a double take, and walks up to ask where you got it.

It happens because the embroidery reads differently than anything mass-produced. The geometric pattern catches light at angles that printed or stamped designs can't. The colors of this collar pop against your pup's coat. This doesn't look like something that came off a shelf.

Most collars disappear into the fur. This one starts conversations.
